Wilbur Joseph Anson died at the age of 86 on February 24, 2020 at the Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder, Colorado.
Wilbur is survived by his daughter Caron Nannie and sons John and David, 31 Grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, his wife Betty, and his sons, Byron and Bruce.
Wilbur was born, the youngest of 3 sons, on May 15, 1933 to Joseph Edward Anson and Edna Wilma Keltz. His older brothers were Elbert Henry and Howard George. He graduated from the University of Colorado and accepted a position at the National Bureau of Standards (now known as NIST) where he worked as an Engineer until he retired in 1989; he then became the business manager for NCSL until retiring in 1997. In 1980 he earned a Master of Science in Accounting and Business from CU.
Wilbur married his high school sweetheart, Betty LuVida Jensen on January 27, 1953 in La Grande, Oregon and the couple had 5 children together. His children remember him as a passionate seeker of knowledge who expected his children to grow up with a love of learning as well.
Wilbur grew up on a farm and learned how to work hard. From a very early age Wilbur loved to learn about anything and everything. He would say if he lived to be 500 there would still be things to discover and learn. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling with Betty, reading and researching, hiking, taking drives in the mountains, museums, music, playing the accordion, and sharing the newest scientific discoveries with family and friends.
