Michael Rader Obituary

Our beloved Michael will be remembered as a faithful and loving son, brother, husband, step-father, uncle, cousin and friend to all of God’s creatures (especially the dogs and cats). Born June 18, 1955 in Houston, Texas, Michael Ray Rader was the only son of the late Thelma and Norman Rader. After graduating from Spring Woods High School, he joined the U.S Army and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War era. After the Army, Michael began an apprenticeship in architecture and spent most of his 35+ year career practicing healthcare architecture with valued lifelong friends, eventually becoming at partner at FKP Architects in Houston. The latter part of his career was especially rewarding as he worked primarily on children’s hospitals. He also enjoyed volunteer work building homes for Habitat for Humanity, renovating his own homes, and remodeling old cars from the 1960s era. Mike could build or fix anything and always had a spare moment to help a relative, neighbor or friend.

Michael loved Colorado. His first visit was shortly after graduating high school, and throughout his years he spent many vacations travelling all over the state. After retiring, he and Nancy moved to Colorado to be near their daughter Leslie. During this time Mike could be found camping, attending concerts and jazz festivals with friends and family, bicycling and hiking on the trails, playing lots of Pickleball, and capturing it all through his love of photography. He always had a smile on his face, and shared his father’s goofy sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy, step-daughter Leslie and son-in-law Russell, sisters Linda Wallace and Peggy Craft, sister-in-law Pamela Rosenauer, and numerous nieces and nephews. Happy Trails Michael, until we meet again.
