Jeremy Green Obituary

Jeremy Scott Green, 50 of Thornton, passed away peacefully from a brief and sudden illness on November 14th, 2023, with his partner of 18 wonderful years, Gretchen Olsen by his side.  He will be missed and was taken from us too soon. His bright smile, sense of humor and ability to lighten any situation with a joke, even if a bit off color or inappropriate,  always made his many friends, family, and coworkers’ day better.

Scott was born in Toledo Ohio to a military family.  The family moved to Jacksonville NC where he spent most of his childhood with his mother Nancy Jean Wilmoth Green, father Windle Ray Green and younger sister Amy Green.

Scott loved “Adventures” and it didn't really matter where; international destinations, around the US, the beaches of North Carolina or just around our local town.  Exploring the beautiful places of Colorado included attend fun festivals, new restaurants, and usually ending up in the local bar or brewery. He always approached these adventures with a sense of opportunity to explore and experience something new, even if they were completely over-planned by Gretchen.  They travelled to Italy in September, experiencing a long-time dream vacation.  They enjoyed food, wine, history, architecture, and he even managed to charm a local elderly vineyard owner for a private wine tasting while Gretchen and the rest of the group toured the grounds.  He always knew when to use his charm and flash that Scott smile and dimple.

He had a special relationship with his sister who will always refer to him as her “BIG” bro.  She cherished his many stories and his ability to help her see a different side of a situation, while always providing valued advice regarding work and life.  She will miss the phone calls, numerous stories, his loud belly laugh, sarcastic sense of humor, quick wit, joy of entertaining, bartending and whiskey.  Scott had an ability to strike up conversations with anyone, and had a way to cut-up with the best of them.

Gretchen has a special message for Scott:  I will miss you every day, especially the way you hugged me completely.  The way you made me laugh, even at myself, and teased me for overthinking. Our days of sitting around doing nothing, or watching football, you even converting me to a Georgia Bulldog fan. Our game nights, happy hours on the deck, your southern cooking, our Thanksgiving dinners big enough for an army.  I will especially miss how you totally loved and always took care of me.  As I try to move forward continuing our many traditions, celebrating you and the love you brought to my life, I will never forget you, your smile, and your laughter.   And while we didn’t get the chance to carry out all our planned adventures, I am eternally grateful for the ones we had together.

Scott is survived by his life partner Gretchen Olsen, supportive sister Amy Green (Jared Steele), stepfather Roger Williams, stepsister Jenny Edwards (Perry Edwards), niece Peyton Edwards, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers.   Preceded in death by his mom Nancy Jean Wilmoth Green and dad Windle Ray Green.

There were many charities that Scott was passionate about, but none more than ones that involved children. He could never pass up a Girl Scout selling cookies, or Boy Scout selling popcorn.  With that in mind, in leu of flowers, please consider donating to the Charlotte Boy Scout Troop 8, in honor of 2 special boys he loved, Henry and Kevin Keith.   (https://www.charlottetroop8.com/christmas-shop)
