Mary Martella of Louisville passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in Boulder surrounded by family, just 33 days after the passing of her husband Thomas Martella, the love of her life. She was 85.
Mary was born to Andrew Miller Jr. and Mary Coral (Wise) Miller in Aguilar, CO on June 7, 1932. She graduated from Boulder High School and married Thomas Martella of Louisville in 1950. She worked at the Rocky Flats Plant for more than 32 years before retiring in 1990.
Survivors include daughters Joan (Bob) Luxner of Louisville and Brenda (Steve) Summers of Boulder, grandsons Corey (Tallie) Luxner, Kevin (Ashley) Luxner, Kyle Luxner, and Eric Summers. Great grandchildren Olivia, Cassandra, Stella, Charlotte, Emma, Ava, and Owen, sister Donna Ernst, brother-in-law Bill Martella, numerous nieces and nephews and beloved cat Malaysia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom of 67 years and 7 months, her parents, and brother Herb Miller.
She loved all animals and loved visiting pets that seemed to sense her giving nature on her daily walks in Park Lake. Her daughters, grandsons-and great grandchildren were her life.
The family is grateful for the excellent care that Mary received from the staff at Avista Hospital and from TRU Community Care. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Mary’s name to St. Louis Church, Louisville, CO, or to Imagine! Colorado in honor of her grandson Kyle Luxner, or the Humane Society of Boulder Valley through ColoradoGives.org.
The immediate family will hold private services to honor Tom and Mary together.
